Registered DNA Certified Savanna Goats

Updated: Apr 20, 2023

With friends from church, we accomplished a task we put off for some time. DNA samples taken and tattoo identification finished on over 50 goats. This task takes time but knowing that the paperwork matches the DNA information on parentage provides peace of mind for buyers and sellers. Tail hairs were pulled, put in labeled ziplock bags and mailed to UC Davis for verification of parentage. DNA testing does not reveal the breed of the goat nor the amounts of various breeds that might make up the animal. DNA tests if the goat in question is the offspring of two specific parents when DNA samples are provided of the suspected parents. Goats received the tattoo in the ear. Our crew of 6 completed the task and now I can check it off my list. Yay!!

Rain!

It has been a rainy spring and early summer. I don't think I have ever seen the surrounding hills so green. The goats are doing well, kidding is all finished. 216% kid crop this year! So thrilled
