What a Spring!

With kidding season in full swing, Mother Nature decided to send the spring rains. Several days of rainfall and mountain runoff caused the creek to flow out of its banks. Fortunately, no real damage done and the water receded quickly. The rainy days made kidding challenging as babies were coming fast and furious and all the goats huddled in the shelters. Kid goats had to be tagged quickly to help identify their does and prevent mix ups. Does kidding too close to one another made identification of kids hard at times. To ensure bonding the 9 barn “jugs” were full of does with their kids during the rain. Does and babies had to bond quickly as approximately 16 babies were born each day. We were so glad when the rains ceased and the mud began to dry with the sunshine. With drier weather moms and babies could be left out in the field to bond apart from other does.
