The hardiness of our Savanna goat herd presents itself in dry hot summers and cold snowy winters. Yes, the Savanna breed is cold hardy but in Montana they must also endure 50 degree temperature swings. The end of January saw near 50 degrees with the temperature plummeting to minus 5 degrees in just a couple of days. These goats handle the extreme temperature changes very well. The goats grow a thick winter coat which allows them to be out in the cold wind eating and drinking. Hot summer days and cold winter nights do not bother the herd. However, the one exception is they really do not like to be wet. Rainy wet weather finds the herd under roofs to shelter from the rain. Can’t say I blame them there! Here’s

looking forward to warmer temperatures as we thaw hoses and scoop snow from feed bunks!
